Introduction

The Pegaso 5062-A is an 8.7-metre bus whose chassis was derived from the celebrated Pegaso Comet lorry, which explains its unusually high floor.

Its compact dimensions, capacity for 20 seated passengers and excellent reliability enabled the vehicle to remain in service for many years.

Vehicle condition

The vehicle joined ARCA in 2007. Apart from routine servicing, it has required no major maintenance and remains in excellent condition despite its age.

It is fully operational and regularly takes part in ARCA activities.

History

The vehicle’s story began in 1976 with the opening of the first urban bus service in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, operated by Isidre Miquel Milà. Its two vehicles were Pegaso 5062-A buses with Unicar U-75 bodywork, registered B-3030-BK and B-3039-BK. In 1980 both Comet-derived buses were replaced by a Sava 5701 minibus, which was better suited to the route.

That same year, the two Pegaso 5062-A buses from Sant Feliu joined the fleet of the recently established TUISA, Transports Urbans d’Igualada. In 1993 their interiors were rebuilt: the padded double seats were replaced by Vera de Bidasoa urban seats, reducing seated capacity from 35 to 20 while increasing standing room.

Their high capacity and reliability kept them in service for many years. B-3039-BK was withdrawn in 2004, while B-3030-BK remained in regular service until 2005 and then became a reserve vehicle.

The bus uses a Pegaso 5062-A frame derived from the popular Pegaso Comet lorry. Its six-cylinder, 125 hp engine drives through a six-speed manual gearbox, while the Unicar U-75 body provides a generous passenger capacity.

Recognising the excellent condition of B-3030-BK, ARCA began the arrangements to preserve it, with TUISA providing valuable assistance throughout. On 3 September 2007, the bus was driven from Igualada to the UAB campus before making its preservation debut at the Sabadell Rallybus.
