Introduction
The Pegaso 6035-A is an articulated bus measuring 16.5 metres long, 2.5 metres wide and 3 metres high.
With seating for 36 passengers and a high overall capacity, it was particularly well suited to heavily used routes.
Vehicle condition
This was the first bus to become part of ARCA’s collection. Originally operated by TMB and later by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), it was transferred to ARCA in 2003 and has since been restored and preserved.
Following an extensive overhaul, the vehicle is now fully operational.
History
TMB withdrew the bus in 1989 and transferred it to the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Bellaterra for the university’s internal campus service, which linked Cerdanyola del Vallès station with the campus. It underwent several modifications for this busy short-distance work: some seats were removed, the request-stop system was eliminated and the lower front window was replaced by an interior heating unit.
In subsequent years, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya opened a station within the campus. Together with the arrival of further second-hand buses from TMB —Pegaso 6420 Enasa and Mercedes O405G Unicar vehicles— this led the university to withdraw several buses, including number 14, formerly TMB 3055, in 2003.
The UAB gave ARCA every assistance in preserving the bus and provided space in which the necessary repairs could be carried out.
Since 2003, ARCA has worked to restore the vehicle to its appearance during its TMB years. The progress of the work can be seen in the gallery.
In 2005 the bus appeared in the film “Salvador”. This made it possible to repaint it in the green “Porcioles” livery and temporarily refit the round headlamps and Pegaso cross. The conductor’s booth and the complete set of light-wood-style seats were also restored.
Until July 2006, the exterior combined the green “Porcioles” paintwork with square headlamps and a chrome grille.
In August 2006, with support from TMB, the bus was repainted in red and cream, a scheme consistent with its front grille, square headlamps and interior. Its first public appearance in the new livery was at the celebration marking one hundred years of buses in Barcelona.
The vehicle is fully operational and regularly takes part in ARCA activities.
In 2012 it underwent another general overhaul and repaint.
