HISTORY

Start of service: 1968 (TB 3036)
Withdrawal: 2003 (UAB 17)

This bus belongs to the first batches of articulated buses received by TB (Transports de Barcelona), numbered 3001-3101 and dating from 1967. The buses from these series were derived from a prototype numbered 2001 (later renumbered as 3001).

Many vehicles were refurbished in a process begun in 1977, in which their structure and body were renewed, although ancient mechanical elements were re-used . They went on in service in Barcelona until 1993 together with their youngercousins from series 3200-3264 built in 1975-79. Nº 3036 was affected by this reform and it would receive a Noge body replacing the Hugas original frame.

During 1989 nº 3036 was withdrawn at TMB and was sold to the Universitat Autònoma de Bellaterra providing there shuttle service for the University Campus and receiving fleet number 17.

This short and sometimes heavily crowded route required the buses to be slightly modified: loss of some rows of seats, suppression of requested stop lights, and due to lower temperatures loss of the lower front window to make room for a heating system for the interior.

Some years later Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) and RENFE opened  stations  inside or close to the Campus which, together with the arrival of "new" second-hand TMB buses Pegaso 6420 Enasa and Mercedes O405G bodied by Unicar, triggered the withdrawal of some buses, including nº 17 (former-TMB 3036) which happened during year 2003.

Following the initiave started by the AAFCB with nº 16 and ARCA with nº 14 , the Club Auto Clàssic de Gratallops decided to preserve nº 17 in year 2005. However, in year 2007 ceased to support the preservation project and a search was begun looking for a new preservationist. Finally, in February 2008, nº 3036 and the rest of UAB's Monotrals excepting nºs 13, 14 and 16, were taken to TMB's Triangle Bus Depot by the Fundació TMB. Nº 17 would be shown to the public during the Bus Rally from Barcelona to Caldes de Montbui in its 2010 edition, where it would display a new livery in original green "Porcioles" and an external aspect fully refurbished trying to imitate the 1968 original bus.
